In what's already turning out to be a busy offseason for South Carolina, Shane Beamer isn't getting much rest. Nope, he knows he needs to turn things around ASAP and every decision he makes will be watched closely. Well, it looks like he's mixing things up for his staff and in a great way.
As it turns out, it looks like South Carolina could be adding Jason Smith as an assistant offensive line coach. As noted by reporter Jordan Kaye on Twitter, Smith has upgraded his bio to read that he's indeed joining the USC staff. Could an announcement be coming soon?
Looks like former No. 2 overall pick Jason Smith (@JasonSmith_OL) has joined the Gamecocks staff as an assistant offensive line coach.

Smith played under South Carolina OL coach Randy Clements at Baylor. They worked together at North Texas in 2022, too. pic.twitter.com/dnsbUlC3pz
Former No. 2 overall pick Jason Smith appears to be joining the South Carolina staff
Smith was a standout for Baylor before being taken No. 2 overall by the St. Louis Rams in the 2009 NFL Draft. He was in the league until 2014, suiting up for the Rams, Jets and Saints. This isn't Smith's first coaching gig, as he was previously on staff at North Texas and Abilene Christian.
Now, he's ready to join a Power 4 program and Beamer is ready to give him a shot. Bringing in someone of Smith's caliber could prove to be fantastic for the South Carolina offensive line, especially for the youngsters on campus.
What better way to help their development than to bring in someone who was a former first-round pick and a stud in college to help them come along? Bringing in someone like Smith as an assistant position coach could be something we all look back to as a huge offseason win for Beamer.
After another rough season in 2025, the Gamecocks and Beamer have made some tough calls with the staff. This includes firing offensive coordinator Mike Shula. However, with LaNorris Sellers returning next season, people are excited to see what South Carolina can get done. Once he makes the move to campus, Smith will be hoping to make an impact as well.
