Women's basketball players suit up for several different teams across their career. While several play for their respective college and professional teams, playing internationally is another important aspect of their development throughout their careers.

South Carolina Gamecocks rising sophomore Agot Makeer is doing just that. The South Carolina guard, who is from Thunder Bay, Ontario, was announced on the Canadian National Team training camp roster, which will train together from June 20-28 in Montreal. The training camp is to help the national team prepare for the FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament later this year in Guadalajara, Mexico. The training sessions and tournament are important aspects of Team Canada's road to the Los Angeles Summer Olympic games in 2028.

Okot has dual citizenship in both the United States and Canada. She previously represented Team Canada during the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup, averaging 10.3 points and 4.9 rebounds for her team. She played high school basketball at Montverde Academy in Florida.

“This camp marks the beginning of our journey toward LA 2028,” Steve Baur, Vice-President and General Manager of Women’s High Performance said via the official release. “Bringing our athletes and staff together in Montréal allows us to continue building on the culture, standards and foundation we’ve established as a program. This roster reflects the depth of talent emerging through our pathway, and we're excited to continue building toward sustained success on the international stage.”

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley has let several of her players suit up internationally for teams this summer. Over the last couple of months, Joyce Edwards won gold for Team USA during FIBA's 3x3 tournament. Incoming true freshman Kelsi Andrews also won a gold medal for Team USA in the FIBA U18, defeating Team Candad in the final.

Makeer played a pivotal role on South Carolina's offense last season, averaging 19.3 minutes per game as a true freshman. She averaged 7.3 points per game with 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. She is expected to see much more time in the Gamecocks' rotation during this upcoming season.

Following the training camp, Canada is set to play in FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2026 from Aug. 17-23 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Congrats to Makeer on making the roster!
