The quarterback of South Carolina's future has suffered a season-ending setback thanks to injury. 2027 Gamecock signal-caller commit Jerry Meyer III has suffered a broken collarbone and is reportedly out for the season.

Meyer plays high school football out of Waxahachie, Texas. According to USA Today Sports, Meyer suffered the injury during his team's 35-28 win over powerhouse Dallas-area school Duncanville this past Friday.

Greg Riddle of The Dallas Morning News reported that Meyer is expected to be out for the remainder of the season. But Meyer's Waxahachie coach, Lawrence Williams, told Riddle the coach is unsure how long his quarterback will be out for.

Given that it is late October, it is unlikely that Meyer will return at any point this season for his team. But we'll see what the timetable is as more information comes available.

Meyer has been committed to South Carolina's class since April of 2026. He is rated by the 247Sports Composite as a three-star, and the No. 57 overall signal-caller in his class. He holds offers from several other schools such as TCU, Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss Texas Tech and SMU as well as several others.

Meyer was previously committed to TCU before flipping to the Gamecocks. He took an official visit to Columbia over summer.

"It was an awesome experience," Meyer told Gamecock247 of his visit. The people and the coaches, the whole organization separates themselves from any other program in the country. I think anyone else that took a visit would think that as well. Special place. Special program. Special people. Special environment."

He was having a great senior season for the Indians, throwing for 2,098 yards with 24 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Across his career per MaxPreps, Meyer has thrown for 10,871 yards with 144 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

Even if he does not return to the field the rest of the season over the next couple months, hopefully he will be in great shape to rehab and get back to full strength in no time. Meyer is South Carolina's lone signal-caller in head coach Shane Beamer's 2027 class.

Get well soon, future Gamecock quarterback!
