The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to stay hot on the recruiting trial after back-to-back wins over ranked opponents in Florida and Tennessee. South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer already flipped four-star 2027 defensive lineman Nate Kamba from Auburn after the win.

Now, South Carolina has its sights set on 4-star quarterback Anthony Turner from the class of 2028. Turner, who is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 16 overall quarterback in his class, recently announced that he is down to nine final schools. The Gamecocks made the final cut for the Virginia Beach signal-caller, along with local area schools such as North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Weak Forest and Kentucky. Turner also included the likes of LSU, Liberty, Nebraska and Florida.

Turner is rated as the No. 2 overall prospect from his home state of Virginia. Perhaps in a positive sign for the Gamecocks, 247 lists Turner with a "warm" interest next to South Carolina and Virginia Tech.

Here's a look at some of 247Sports' scouting report for Turner, via Andrew Ivins:

Athletic trigger man that has a chance to be a game-wrecker if it all comes together. Still very much a work in progress at the halfway mark of his junior campaign, but has put encouraging stretches on tape while also impressing multiple times on the offseason camp circuit. Pairs natural arm talent with an explosive lower half. Excels at throwing on the move and outside of the pocket as he will drop the elbow and change launch angles to throw around coverage. Dangerous as an open-field runner and slick on RPO calls with his acceleration.

Turner plays high school football out of Landstown High School in Virginia Beach. So far this season as a junior, he has thrown for 1,281 yards with 13 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He has rushed for another 173 carries on the ground with five touchdowns.

Landing a quarterback like Turner would fill a big need for South Carolina's 2028 class. It currently does not have a signal-caller. The class does have a prospect from Virginia already committed, as three-star receiver Jahmari Cain from Richmond, Va. committed to the class in July.

We'll see if the Gamecocks can get Turner on-campus for a visit in the coming weeks during the regular season.
