South Carolina head coach Shae Beamer missed out on a key prospect on Saturday evening. Although the Gamecocks were a finalist for four-star linebacker Mikahi Allen, the big-time prospect from New Jersey committed to Texas A&M:

He chose the Aggies over his final schools including South Carolina and Texas. This is a big get for Texas A&M's 2027 class, which is rated as the No. 1 overall class in the country. The Don Bosco linebacker is rated by 247Sports as the nation's No. 15 linebacker for 2027 and the No. 5 overall prospect out of New Jersey.
Allen was narrowing down his final schools in recent weeks, taking visits to all three of his finalists. He took an official visit to see South Carolina and head coach Shane Beamer on June 5. He also visited Texas A&M on May 29 and was in Austin visiting the Longhorns on June 19. Per Rivals, Allen is rated as the No. 17 overall linebacker in the class of 2027.
Him committing to the Aggies isn't exactly a huge surprise, but it still stings for South Carolina. Rivals gave Texas A&M and head coach Mike Elko a 92% chance to land the linebacker, with Rutgers coming in at 2%. 247Sports had him as a 100% lock to land with Texas A&M.
Allen was a big position of need for South Carolina's 2027 class, which has just one linebacker commit in three-star Jackson Ross. Allen going to the Aggies also marks the second recruiting loss for Coach Beamer on Saturday, as South Carolina lost out to Dabo Swinney and Clemson for in-state defensive lineman Seth Tillman.
Although the Gamecocks held off Texas A&M to land five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson last week, the Aggies weren't going to let that happen again.
According to MaxPreps, Allen finished last season at Bosco with 58 total tackles including seven sacks.
For all of the positive momentum South Carolina has had on the recruiting trail in recent weeks, Coach Beamer losing out on two key prospects takes the wind out of those sails a bit.
