The South Carolina Gamecocks have continued their strong momentum on the recruiting trail. Just one day after adding four star wide receiver Joseph "Jett" Gibbs to South Carolina's 2028 class, head coach Shane Beamer has officially added a second member to his 2028 class.
On Thursday evening, South Carolina landed a verbal commitment from three-star wide receiver Jhamari Cain. The Gamecocks beat out his final schools in Kentucky and Virginia Tech for the Richmond, Va. prospect:

Cain is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 8 overall ranked prospect out of his home state of Virginia, as well as the No. 62 overall wideout for 2028. Rivals puts him 83rd overall in his position group and 12th inside the Virginia state rankings. All signs were pointing towards the Gamecock landing the talented prospect, as Rivals gave South Carolina an 76% chance to land Cain, putting Howard at 6%.
In Columbia, Cain gets to suit up with a his high school teammate, 2027 commit Iveon Lewis
The receiver is also conveniently the Huguenot teammate of current Gamecock commit and fellow wideout Iveon Lewis. Lewis was one of several blue-chip prospects Coach Beamer has been able to land over the last couple weeks. Impressively, Lewis flipped to South Carolina after previously committing to Kentucky last month. One can presume Cain likely has heard plenty about South Carolina and what it has to offer from his teammate.
Per MaxPreps, Cain is a versatile athlete who also plays basketball for Huguenot. Per 247Sports, Gamecock wide receivers coach Mike Furrey has primarily been recruiting the wideout.
The Gamecocks offered the Huguenot High School product in June of last year. He was on-campus for a Beamer Football Camp, and impressed the Gamecock coaching staff enough to land an offer. Cain also holds offers from the likes of Syracuse, Toledo, Marshall, East Carolina and HBCU Howard.
Prior to his commitment, South Carolina's 2028 class ranked 12th nationally. That number is likely to change in the coming hours following Cain's commitment.
South Carolina has been cleaning up on the recruiting trail in recent weeks, landing the aforementioned Lewis, as well as blue-chip cornerback Kelvin Millington, five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, four-star Nate Carson and safety Davion Jones. This is also the second prospect that Beamer has beat out Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin for, as Millington was also a Hokie target. After a 4-8 season last year in Columbia, South Carolina stacking up wins on the recruiting trail has to be encouraging for Gamecock fans.
Congrats to Cain on becoming a Gamecock, and welcome to Columbia!
