The South Carolina Gamecocks are just one day away from kicking off against the Kentucky Wildcats. The Gamecocks are listed as slight 3-point home favorites at home, as head coach Shane Beamer looks to get his first SEC win this season.
A big question surrounding South Carolina on defense is the status of star defensive tackle Gabe Brownlow-Dindy. The senior missed last week's game at Alabama, as he has been dealing with an upper body injury he sustained against Mississippi State the week prior.
On Thursday evening, Brownlow-Dindy was listed as questionable to play in the Gamecocks' latest injury report given to the SEC two days before kickoff.
But speaking on his weekly radio show, Coach Beamer said that the defensive tackle is "trending in the right direction" to play Saturday. The position group also saw an injury to defensive tackle Kelby Collins, who exited with an eye injury against the Tide. Beamer added that he is expected to play.
“They’re doing well, those were two losses,” Beamer said via Gamecock Central on Thursday. “This league is a line-of-scrimmage league and to go into that game against a really good offense, down two of your top three defensive tackles is not ideal.
"Gabe has practiced all week," Beamer continued "I think we have him listed as questionable tonight on the injury report. He’s got some work to get done over the next couple of days to go into an SEC game and play on Saturday afternoon, but he’s certainly trending in the right direction.”
Kentucky-South Carolina weather forecast calling for rain, some storms
Getting both guys back will be big for South Carolina, going up against a Kentucky team that has played well in recent weeks. Led by quarterback Kenny Minchey and running backs Jason Patterson and CJ Baxter, the Wildcats are averaging 34.5 points per game.
Collins has had five tackles with three solo stops. The next injury report will come out on Friday at 7:10 p.m. CT.
Kickoff for Satruday's game is set for 4:15 p.m. ET, set to air live on SEC Network.
