South Carolina Gamecocks new: basketball is upon us, USC tries to flip safety recruit
South Carolina basketball is on the horizon
South Carolina basketball is simply just a little less than a week away and fans are anxiously awaiting to see what both their men's and women's teams can do this year. The women's basketball team is looking for their third straight National Championship, something that hasn't been done since UConn did it back in 2015 and actually got the 4-peat winning from 2013 to 2016.
The men's basketball team is looking to prove all the haters wrong yet again this season. Last year, the Gamecocks were projected to finish last in the SEC. However, they ended up finishing fifth in the conference and even earned a bid to March Madness as a six-seed.
Unfortunately, the Gamecocks were knocked out of the first round by the Oregon Ducks, but they look to take another step forward as a program this season. Clearly, the SEC didn't learn from their mistake last season as they projected the Gamecocks to finish 11th in the conference this season, but this team is simply taking it on the chin and ready to prove everyone wrong...again.
USC tried to flip 3-star Southern Cal safety recruit
During the bye week, head coach Shane Beamer used the time off to get out on the recruiting trail and not only find players to make offers to but try to flip a few that have already committed to other schools.
Monday night, the Gamecocks made an offer to 3-star safety Steve Miller, who is already committed to Southern Cal, a commitment he made weeks ago. However, Miller is keeping his options open.
Miller has already flipped his commitment earlier this year when he flipped from Mississippi State to Southern Cal. Miller is ranked as the No. 42 safety in the Class of 2025 and attends Greene County High School, which is also home to 4-star defensive lineman Kevin Wynn, who is another top target for the Gamecocks in the Class of 2025.
More South Carolina sports
South Carolina volleyball, who is 12-6 on the season, is coming off back-to-back wins against Oklahoma and Auburn and is set for a big game towards the end of this week. The Gamecocks are set to take on No. 14 Kentucky this weekend at home in Columbia for Alumnae Night.
South Carolina women's soccer is also on a roll as they took down No. 13 Auburn 2-1 this weekend for their eighth win of the season. Seniors Cat Berry and Emma Bucci both recorded goals for the Gamecocks as keeper Christina Tsauosis had five saves on the night, allowing just one goal on 14 shots.
More college sports
The college football season is quickly getting closer to its end as there is roughly one more month of the regular season, and the new 12-team College Football Playoff will take place. The end of the college football season signals the beginning fo the college basketball season and both UConn men's basketball and South Carolina women's basketball look to defend their titles from the previous season.
