South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers is officially listed as questionable for Saturday's road game against Missouri, according to the SEC's midweek availability report. Sellers, who exited the game against Vanderbilt after taking a hard helmet-to-helmet hit that drew4 a targeting call, has been limited in practice.
While Shane Beamer stayed cautious earlier in the week when asked about the availability of Sellers for Saturday, optimism has built through the week about the quarterback possibly suiting up. Earlier on Wednesday, ESPN Insider Pete Thamel reported that Sellers was participating in practice and that "positive signs" point to his potential return. Beamer echoed that outlook the day after the game that took Sellers out, saying that Sellers was trending in the right direction.
Wednesday evening's injury report also listed wide receiver Mazeo Bennett Jr. as questionable, while cornerback Judge Collier and tight end Michael Smith were tagged a doubtful.
Before Sellers exited the game, he completed six out of seven passes for 94 yards and an interception. Senior backup Luke Doty stepped in, finishing 18-of-27 for 148 yards with an interception as well. Beamer also made it clear that Doty would start if Sellers is unavailable, thought he praised the development of the other Gamecocks QB backups Cutter Woods and Air Noland.
Beamer reiterated his stance on player availability also: “If you don’t practice Tuesday or Wednesday, you’re not going to play.” With Sellers practicing this week, the Gamecocks remain hopeful that their star signal-caller will be ready under the lights in Columbia, Missouri.
