Gamecocks lead for 4-star Kennedy Green in 2027 class

South Carolina football is surging toward the top of another recruiting battle, and this time it's Class of 2027 defensive back Kennedy Green. The 6-foot-2 safety, who once was committed to Mississippi State, reopened his recruitment earlier this summer and is now heavily considering the Gamecocks.

In a recent conversation with Rivals, the Douglasville, Georgia, native said the Gamecocks have set the pace in Green's recruitment. “My interest in South Carolina is really high. They are at the top for me,” Green said.

Relationships matter to the Gamecocks

Green pointed out the bonds that he has formed in Columbia as the biggest reason that South Carolina sits at the top of his list. “The relationships I have built with everyone inside that building, from the coaches to the nutrition to the personnel, have them on top,” Green explained. “Coach (Torrian) Gray is real with his players, too. There is no front, just genuine. I respect that a lot.”

But beyond football, Green is looking for a program that values his growth as a person. “It’s about who’s consistent and real with me and my family…It’s not just about football,” Green told Simmons. “I want coaches and a program that support me as a man, education, life skills, everything. I want a place that helps me grow off the field, life after football matters a lot to me.”

Visits are lined up

Green took an unofficial visit to South Carolina in the spring after receiving an offer in March, before returning again in June. He is planning to attend the Gamecocks' season opener against Virginia Tech in Atlanta. Green has also scheduled multiple return trips to Columbia this fall.

Green's teammate at Douglasville High School, four-star Joshua Sam-Epelle, is also interested in South Carolina. The Gamecocks are in a strong position with both players as the recruiting momentum continues to build for the Class of 2027.
