The South Carolina Gamecocks are continuing to stay hot on the recruiting trail, folks. On Sunday evening, the Gamecocks added their 13th member to the 20227 recruiting class in landing three-star linebacker Jackson Ross.
The Columbia, S.C. prospect who plays high school football out of the nearby Hammond School decided to stay home with his commitment. Despite having two other final schools in Vanderbilt and Texas Tech, he chose the school he grew up rooting for.
Ross also has family ties to the Gamecocks as his father, David Ross, played basketball for South Carolina from 1997-2001.
“We did a pretty deep dive into what the depth chart looks like as of next year, kind of what I’ll be going into,” Ross told Gamecock Central of his latest visit with South Carolina. “And what things that they’re missing in the room. And a lot of what they need, what is kind of graduating or going to the next level and leaving the room is what I can bring in, and it’s the things they’re looking for.”
Ross is a talented prospect that has seen snaps both on defense and offense. He also plays basketball for Hammond, and 247Sports lists the linebacker at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. As a junior for Hammond last season, he finished with 102 tackles including 22 for loss, eight sacks and an interception. He also had 10 receptions for 222 yards with six touchdowns.
The 247Sports Composite lists Ross as No. 51 linebacker for 2027, and the No. 13 overall prospect from the state of South Carolina. Kudos to Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer for getting a key in-state prospect to stay close to home. WIth Ross' commitment, he is the highest-rated prospect out of South Carolina to commit to the Gamecocks.
Congrats to Ross, and welcome home!
