The South Carolina Gamecock football program has cut ties with transfer running back Sam Willams-Dixon. Just days after news broke of his arrest, which includes him being charged with larceny and breaking into motor vehicles, head coach Shane Beamer has dismissed him from the team. The news of his formal dismissal was first reported Monday evening by Lulu Kesin of the Greenville News, and the news was additionally confirmed via Gamecock Central.Â
Williams-Dixon was suspended from the program indefinitely as of Sunday afternoon, when news of his arrest first broke. He had transferred into the program this past January following two seasons at Ohio State. The news of his dismissal comes hours after The State newspaper released more information via police regarding his arrest.Â
The newspaper reported that Williams-Dixon, according to arrest warrants and information from police, alleged that the running back allegedly stole numerous items from the vehicles, during instances that took place over several different days. A couple instances allegedly occurred outside a South Carolina student housing complex, as well. Â
The Pickerington, Ohio native is a redshirt junior who had 10 carries for just 62 yards during his Buckeye career. Coming out of high school, Williams-Dixon was a three-star recruit from the class of 2024, and was rated No. 24 overall coming out of Ohio per the 247Sports Composite.
Although Williams-Dixon did participate in winter workouts and spring football with the Gamecocks, he was expected to be a reserve running back during the 2026 season. South Carolina returns star running back Matt Fuller this season, and added Texas running back Christian Clark from the transfer portal via Texas this offseason.Â
Williams-Dixon is scheduled for a hearing stemming from his arrest in late August in Columbia.
It's unclear if he will transfer elsewhere while his legal issues still remain ongoing.
