South Carolina could have a "Mr. Football" on their hands in the future
On Thursday, September 24, South Carolina announced their finalists for the Mr. Football award, and three of USC's commits were on that list. Quarterback Cutter Woods from Westside High School in Anderson, South Carolina, wide receiver Malik Clark from Rock Hill High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and offensive linesman Shedrick Sarratt Jr. from Gaffney High School in Gaffney, South Carolina.
All of these commits are three of the five finalists for the Mr. Football Award in the state of South Carolina. All three guys are a part of the South Carolina recruitment Class of 2025. Woods and Sarratt were the first two of these three to commit to the Gamecocks with Clark being the most recent committing back in early October.
Right now, the USC Class of 2025 is ranked No. 22 overall by 247Sports. Clark flipped his commitment to South Carolina from Florida State, and Woods flipped his commitment from Wake Forest to the Gamecocks over the summer.
Head coach Shane Beamer has been hot on the recruiting trail during the offseason, bringing in a lot of players from the state of South Carolina. The Mr. Football Award is given to the best high school football player in the state and will be awarded to one of the five finalists on Saturday, December 21, at halftime of the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl.
Just 12 Mr. Football Award winners have been Gamecocks, including the past two winners. The 2023 award winner was Josiah Thompson, and the 2022 winner was Xzavier McLeod, who has since transferred to Georgia.
