South Carolina baseball has added another player to the roster with Iowa transfer catcher Reese Moore. The addition of the star backstop fills a need for the Gamecocks, who struggled with consistency behind the plate throughout the season this year. With Talmadge LeCroy and Gavin Braland set to return to Columbia, South Carolina has needed a proven catcher. And they got one.
Moore is a left-handed bat with strong plate discipline and defensive prowess, who had a breakout season in 2023 and last year. He had a combined .296/.430/.512 with 14 homeruns and 77 RBI across 365 at-bats. His 2025 campaign was especially good, as he hit .304 with nine homeruns, 45 RBI, and led the Iowa Hawkeyes with 35 walks while getting hit by 11 pitches. Moore also earned All-Freshman and Third Team Big Ten honors in 2024, as well as being named First Team All-Big Ten this past season.
Defensively, Moore is just as impressive with over 107 career games with only two errors. He posted a .992 field percentage, allowing for only four passed balls. He has also thrown out six runners and kept interference calls to just one.
Moore is the 12th addition from the transfer portal for head coach Paul Mainieri and the Gamecocks this offseason. He is joining Logan Sutter from Purdue, Alex Philpott from Florida, and Tyler Bak from Wofford. The transfer portal will remain open through July 1, and South Carolina's roster is reloading in full swing.
