College football recruiting never sleeps, and that includes during the spring months of March and April. Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks have been making some major moves on the recruiting trail.
Just last week, South Carolina landed Irish rugby player Neff Giwa, and the Gamecocks could reportedly be on the verge of landing 2027 quarterback out of Texas, Jerry Meyer III. On Thursday, Rivals recruiting reporter Sam Spiegelman reported that South Carolina has the best shot a landing Meyer:

Per On3, the Gamecocks have a 91.9% chance to land the signal-caller. The outlet rates Meyer as a three-star quarterback prospect, and the No. 56 overall signal-caller for 2027. The Waxahachie, Texas product was previously committed to TCU since Aug. 2025, but decommitted from the Horned Frogs in February earlier this year a few weeks after Beamer and his staff offered the quarterback. Meyer was just on campus in Columbia this past weekend.

According to MaxPreps, Meyer has thrown for 8,773 yards with 120 touchdowns and 17 interceptions over three seasons. Meyer holds offers from several other Texas schools like Baylor, Houston, Texas Tech, SMU and SEC programs such as Ole Miss, Arkansas and Mississippi State.Â
The Gamecocks' 2027 class currently has three members, and ranks 37th nationally. If Spiegelman's prediction is correct, South Carolina landing Meyer III would be a huge boost for South Carolina's 2027 class. Not to mention it would be Beamer's first signal-caller for his 2027 class, and the Gamecocks will inevitably have to replace LaNorris Sellers down the line.
We'll see if Meyer commits to the Gamecocks in the coming weeks.
