South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers has received quite the recognition for his 2024 play in the past few months. From winning SEC Freshman of the Year to now winning Freshman Player of the Year at the Steve Spurrier Awards.

Sellers, even dealing with an injury during the season, put together quite a highlight reel season, leading his team on a six-game win streak that had them in competition for the College Football Playoff.

Last night at the annual Steve Spurrier Awards in Gainesville, Florida, Sellers received the Freshman Player of the Year Award from the former South Carolina head coach. His current head coach Shane Beamer was there to see his young quarterback accept the award and make a short speech.

Beamer then took to social media after the awards banquet to congratulate his quarterback on the award and how he was happy to be in attendance to see Sellars accept the award.

Beamer's love toward his player is not surprising, especially with who Beamer is a as a coach adn with how Sellers played this past season.

Sellers, even with missing a game and a half due to an ankle injury he suffered against LSU, finished the season with stellar stats of 2,534 passing yards, 18 passing touchdowns, seven interceptions, 674 rushing yards, and seven rushing touchdowns.

At times, Sellers was the only source of offense for the Gamecocks, especially in thier big game against Clemson at the end of the season, as Sellers helped bring home the Palmetto Trophy back to Columbia. After a slow start to the year, Sellers settled in as the starting quarterback and found a rhythm not only just in throwing the ball but also in running the ball.

Against Clemson, Sellers had 18 broken tackles and ran through contact numerous times to score two rushing touchdowns against the Tigers. Bright things are ahead for Sellers in year two as a starter, and with the team that Beamer is putting together for 2025, Gamecock fans are excited to see their quarterback back on the field.
