LaNorris Sellers is certainly something else at the quarterback position. He does things that not a lot of quarterbacks can do, and he only has two years of college football experience under his belt. Sellers in the 2024 season, after coming back from an early ankle injury, drew attention from the media for the play he exhibited and was even drawing comparisons to a great former college football quarterback.

With his big frame and ability to run the ball in an elite manner, Sellers has drawn many comparisons to college football great Cam Newton. Newton had probably one of the best college football seasons in the history of college football, winning a Heisman Trophy and the National Championship all in one season.

Newton was known for doing things. A lot of other quarterbacks couldn't and his best skill was his ability to not just run the ball, but run through contact. Sellers have shown that same ability in just two years at the college football level.

It is certainly dangerous to compare Sellers to Newton because of everything Newton accomplished at the college level. Sellers has certainly earned it, though, with his play in the second half of the season, leading the Gamecocks on a six-game win streak and was the life of the offense through those games.

Against Clemson, a tough game for the Gamecocks offensively, Sellers was certainly the heartbeat behind the win. When the Tigers had locked down wide receivers and taken away the run game of Rocket Sanders, Sellers took it upon himself to run the ball.

Not only did he run the ball, but he barreled through defenders, breaking 18 tackles throughout the game, a few in order to find the end zone. Sellers had more yards after contact than he did in the game as a whole due to his aggressive ability to run the ball.

Sellers still has more ahead of him, and anyone and everyone sees that he is going to be a special player in college football. The comparison to Cam Newton is not given, it is earned, and Sellers has earned it.
