Shane Beamer seems to be unfamiliar with the concept of field goals and punts

The number of times Shane Beamer has elected to go for it on fourth down against Missouri is insane.

Someone may want to tell Shane Beamer that just because he can go for it on fourth down doesn't mean he should. While the gamble worked the first couple of times in the game against Missouri, it has not worked much since.

South Carolina had a total handle on this game with a 21-9 lead at halftime and the offense rolling, but things like turning the ball over on downs are something that just gives momentum away. The offense has been clicking all night with quarterback LaNorris Sellers showing some true maturity behind center and moving the ball down the field, but the true highlight of the game has been the Gamecocks defense.

The defense in three quarters was able to keep the Tigers out of the endzone and force four field goals. Beamer needs to put trust in his defense that they can continue to get the job done, especially in the fourth quarter. Instead, just before the third quarter ended, Beamer chose to go for it on a fourth-and-one in South Carolina's own territory, and the Gamecocks were unable to convert, giving the Tigers a great field position.

USC fans are unhappy with Beamer's choices on fourth down because it seems like he doesn't realize he has both a punter and a kicker on his team. There have been two times during tonight's game that Beamer was in field goal range and decided to go for it on fourth down and turned the ball over on downs, leaving six potential points off the board.

When you have a lead, you take the points and run in any way you can. There is taking a smart gamble, and then there is gambling away a game. Beamer has never beat Missouri, and when you have a lead at home, take what you can get and don't give Missouri any breaks.

At some point, this is going to come back to bite the Gamecocks, and let's just hope it isn't at the end of the game, where a win could easily become a loss.

Kai Kroger is actually a very good punter, but at this point, he might need to go up to Beamer on the sideline and reintroduce himself because Beamer seems to have forgotten about him.

Give Missouri enough momentum, they could easily go and win this game, just ask the Oklahoma Sooners. Mizzou is 8-0 in one-score games since last season, so they know how to win close games.

The defense has worked all night; now is not the time to take this game out of their hands. Trust that your team can go out there and get it done even when the offense can't at the moment, that is called complimentary football.
