Shane Beamer had to be quick with filling his offensive coordinator position with the way college football works nowadays. If that job had been vacant for too long, the player might have been tempted to enter the portal, but Beamer made quick work of filling the vacancy, and the guy brought in probably just needs to move offices in the building.

Beamer is promoting former Alabama coach Mike Shula from within after he spent the last season as an offensive analyst for the Gamecocks. As an analyst this past season, while former offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains called plays from the booth, Shula was on the field working with players, most notably star quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

Shula brings a lot of experience to this position as a head coach at the college football level, but they also bring 17 years of NFL experience to this team. While in the NFL, Shula worked as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at different times. He was the offensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers when Cam Newton was drafted in 2011, won MVP in 2015, and led the team to the Super Bowl.

Shula's relationship with Sellers is what makes this promotion so great. Shula knows what Sellers can do, and Sellers knows and trusts Shula and doesn't have to work with someone new in the building. Shula had a hand in making Sellers one of the best quarterbacks by the end of the season, adn things are just getting started.

Sellers have drawn a lot of comparisons to a young Cam Newton with his size and ability to run the ball and simply run through defenders. His passing ability also came into form as the season went on along with his decision-making, which was huge in big wins against ranked teams like Texas A&M, Missouri, and Clemson.

The duo of Shula and Sellers this next season could make South Carolina one of the scariest offenses in the country. Beamer hit a home run with this hire, and he will get to reap the rewards next season.
