The biggest news to come out of South Carolina this past weekend wasn't the news of not making the College Football Playoff or even the bowl announcement. However, it was that offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains will no longer be with the Gamecocks.
It was announced on Saturday during the SEC Championship, a game head coach Shane Beamer was at, that Loggains was taking the head coaching position at Appalachian State.
Other than the above post on social media, Beamer did not make an official statement about Loggains leaving until his Sunday press conference after the bowl game announcement. Beamer kept things short and sweet when talking about his former offensive coordinator, but he did admit that it is still something fresh.
"We’re working through some things,” Beamer said in his Sunday press conference after the bowl announcement. “Happy for Dowell and his family for the opportunity he has gotten at App State. He’s excited about that, but it’s obviously still very fresh."
The biggest question right now is whether or not Loggains will coach in the bowl game or not. Loggains was already in Boone when the announcement was made as he was meeting with the team, but there is a possibility that the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl could be his final game with the Gamecocks.
Beamer admitted that it was something being discussed among the staff, primarily between himself and Loggians, but it wasn't something he wanted to get into and focus on at that moment.
The departure of Loggains means that BEamer will be looking for his third offensive coordinator in four years. Loggains joined the Gamecocks in 2023 and spent two seasons with South Carolina. He was a big reason for LaNorris Sellers' success on the field with play calls he would make the young quarterback.
Beamer may look to fill the position quickly to get someone in there and start creating relationships with the staff and players.
