The South Carolina Gamecocks were one of several SEC programs wrapping up their spring football season. Over the weekend, the Gamecocks spring practices concluded, and South Carolina now enters the summer months before fall camp begins.
One big returning starter for the Gamecocks this season is redshirt junior quarterback LaNorris Sellers. Over his last two seasons, he has thrown for 4,971 yards with 31 touchdowns with 15 interceptions. But he regressed from 2024 to 2025, rushing for a career-low 270 yards and taking 42 sacks on the season.
South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer's hopes on improving from the 4-8 mark last season largely hinges on Sellers having a big year. At Beamer's end of spring football press conference, he revealed one of the biggest things he saw from Sellers during practices. One of those was his leadership, as well as learning new offensive coordinator Kendal Briles' new system.
"I thought LaNorris had a great spring getting adjusted, learning a new offense," Beamer said via On3Sports. Getting adjusted to Coach Briles and Coach Briles’ coaching style, was really pleased with the spring with LaNorris had. I think he’s in a good place. He’s playing with a lot of confidence right now. Leadership-wise, same thing. I think he’s been really good there. You know, communicating with the offense, organizing throwing sessions, talking when he needs to talk. Like where he is right now.
“He and I talked about it, just that, you know, he’s not the young guy anymore," Beamer continued. "This is his fourth year in the program and all eyes are on him in so many ways. So don’t be somebody that you’re not, but continue to lead this team, and this summer will be big for you from a leadership standpoint, too. But really pleased with what he’s done there, and I like where he is right now, mentally and physically.”
