Shane Beamer might have to look under the couch cushions for tight ends vs. Wofford
South Carolina won big over Missouri last weekend, but they lost in a couple of areas, and that would be in the injury game. The Gamecocks weren't to get out of their game against the Tigers unscathed and may have to bring in some of the reserved against Wofford this weekend.
The SEC has implemented a new injury report system this season where teams must release official injury reports every day of the week, starting on Wednesday up until game day. However, when a team is not playing another SEC opponent, the teams are not required to release an official injury report, but that doesn't mean coaches won't give updates on injuries throughout the week.
In his Thursday radio call on Carolina Calls on 107.5 The Game, Beamer updated everyone on the injuries for this weekend's matchup against Wofford. When Beamer originally stated that five guys were ones to watch throughout the week and that was defensive back Judge Collier, wide receiver Jared Brown, and tight ends Joshua Brown, Michael Smith, and Brady Hunt.
Having three tight ends on the "injury report" this week is troublesome because those are the top three tight ends for the Gamecocks. It is already known that Hunt will not play the final two games of the season, but could be available in the postseason. That leaves Collier, Brown, Simon, and Smith to figure out if they will play or not this weekend.
Beamer said the one he feels the best about is Collier, who had a scary injury against Missouri, but he has practiced all week long and should be good to go this weekend for Wofford. When it comes to Simon and Smith, Beamer said he is optimistic with their ability to play. Honestly, the best thing might be to get them in a game a little and see how they are doing, but don't risk any more injuries and risk losing them against Clemson.
That leaves Brown, a player that has dealt with quite a bit of injury this season. It seems like Brown could be a game-time decision this weekend. Brown had some big moments against Missouri, including a touchdown early in the game, so keeping him healthy for Clemson might be more important than having him play against Wofford.
