Shane Beamer has had an up-and-down career at South Carolina, his first heading coaching gig. However, in four seasons with the Gamecocks, Beamer has done something not even legendary coach Steve Spurrier did and that was win 29 games.

With the win over Clemson, Beamer passed Spurrier for most wins through the first four seasons as a coach as Spurrier only had 28 and this win marked No. 29 for Beamer.

If someone had told South Carolina fans Beamer would have done this midway through the season, they probably wouldn't have believed them. South Carolina was 3-3 midway through the season, and it felt like Beamer would turn in yet another mediocre season, and fans were ready to move on from the young head coach.

Instead, the Gamecocks completely turned their season around, going on a six-game win streak topped off with a big comeback win over their bitter in-state rival Clemson. During that six-game win streak, South Carolina took down four ranked opponents, making their record against ranked opponents this season 4-3.

Beamer found a way to turn it around for his team, and some of that comes from the culture he has brought to South Carolina. If there is one thing Beamer has proven, it is that he knows how to end a season strong in the month of November. This season, the Gamecocks went undefeated in November and in his head coaching career, Beamer is now 13-4.

Steve Spurrier goes down as one of the most famous coaches in South Carolina history, and for Beamer to be in the same category as him has to be something special. Congratulations Shane Beamer on turning the season around and now the fate of the team lies in the hands of the College Football Playoff committee.
