Picture it: you’ve got the game on the radio when Todd Ellis’ voice rings out: “Sellers drops back… Sellers to Sellers… in the end zone… Touchdown, Carolina!”
As LaNorris Sellers is preparing for his second season as the starting quarterback for South Carolina, he has found a new favorite receiver, one that comes with a family connection. Last season, Sellers' most targeted pass catcher was Nyck Harbor, according to the stats at Pro Football Focus. But heading into the 2025 season, the Gamecocks' QB1 says that role belongs to his younger brother, freshman wide receiver Jayden Sellers.
“He’s been my favorite receiver. No bias… actually, it’s a lot of bias,” LaNorris joked with reporters. “Just growing up together, we already had that chemistry built.”
The younger Sellers, nicknamed "Puppy," enrolled at South Carolina in the spring, following the same early-enrollee path that LaNorris took in 2023. He is joining the Gamecocks after a stellar senior season at South Florence High School, where he led the Bruins to a 12-3 record and a state championship. During that 2024 title run, Jayden racked up 59 receptions for 1,016 yards and 14 touchdowns, along with 485 rushing yards and ten scores on the ground. Jayden committed to South Carolina back in 2023, and this fall will be the first time the brothers have shared the field since 2022. That season also ended with a state championship where Jayden caught four passes from LaNorris for 122 yards and two touchdowns, a connection the brothers hope to replicate on the turf at Williams-Brice.
With the older Sellers leading the offense and little brother stepping into a wide receiver group full of youth, the family duo could become one of South Carolina's most exciting storylines of the 2025 season.
