Week 7 in college football was one for the books, as multiple top-ranked teams fell including Georgia to Auburn, Alabama to Tennessee, and Texas to Florida.
Ole Miss took care of Missouri pretty handily, as did LSU with Mississippi State. South Carolina, luckily, was safe, as the Gamecocks had a bye. After a chaotic week in the SEC, let's take a look at where things stand in the latest SEC Power Rankings.
SEC Power Rankings after Week 7
Cream of the crop
1. Ole Miss Rebels (5-1): Despite losing to Florida earlier in the season, the Rebels got back on track with a 31-3 win over Missouri this week. Although the Tigers' defense had only allowed an average of 11.5 points in wins over Florida and Texas A&M, quarterback Trinidad Chambliss threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another. The Tigers entered the matchup ranked 13th in the nation, so this is a big win for Pete Golding's team. Ole Miss goes on the road to a reeling Texas this week.
2. Tennessee Volunteers (6-1): Tennessee handed Alabama its second straight loss for the first time since 2007, and the Vol defense led the day. Tennessee forced four Tide turnovers, including two fumbles and two interceptions from Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell.
Keep an eye on the quarterback situation in Knoxville, as head coach Josh Heupel appears non-committal on naming an outright starter between George MacIntyre and Faizon Brandon.
3. Kentucky Wildcats (6-1): I mean, who would have thought that Kentucky would be this good under first-year head coach Will Stein? The Wildcats' dream season rolled on with a 21-13 road win over Oklahoma, as the defense forced four Sooner turnovers.
With the win, Kentucky is now tied atop the SEC standings with the Georgia Bulldogs. Stein's team has a tough stretch during the month of November, with three straight games against ranked opponents in Tennessee, Florida and Missouri before playing rival Louisville.
4. Georgia Bulldogs (6-1): One of the most shocking upsets in the conference, Auburn got a win over the No. 1 team in the land for the first time since 2017. It appeared as though the Dawgs were going to pull this game out, until a Gunner Stockton fumble gave Auburn the ball back with 58 seconds left. Auburn was helped by a roughing the passer penalty that set up an easy Auburn game-winning field goal.
Despite the loss, the Dawgs have a bye before looking to take care of rival Florida in Atlanta next week. Georgia has to play Ole Miss on the road on Nov. 7 before playing Missouri at home. The Bulldogs close out the season against South Carolina on the road before getting rival Georgia Tech.
Still in the hunt, despite some losses
5. Alabama Crimson Tide (5-2): It was surprising to see how rattled Tennessee's defense made quarterback Keelon Russell look. The Tide losing two games in a row since Nick Saban's first season in Tuscaloosa in 2007 is obviously shocking. With a win on the road against No. 18 LSU, Alabama is likely right back in the CFP conversation. The Tide should also be favored in their remaining games against Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Chattanooga and Auburn.
But if Alabama drops three or more losses, Kalen DeBoer could find himself right back on the hot seat.
6. LSU Tigers (5-2): While there are some doubts about just how good this LSU team really is, the Tigers got back on track with a dominant 31-0 win over Mississippi State. Quarterback Sam Leavitt did a much better job throwing the football, finishing with 289 yards and four touchdowns with zero touchdowns.
We'll see just how good this LSU team really is during a brutal November, featuring games against Alabama, Texas and Tennessee during a three-week stretch. LSU has to be careful this week as well, taking on Auburn on the road.
7. Florida Gators (5-2): Whatever was wrong with Jon Sumrall's team during bad losses to Missouri and South Carolina got figured out against Texas. The Gator defense entered as the No. 131st pass defense in the country and held Arch Manning to throw for just 173 yards and caused a game-winning strip sack on the Longhorns embattled quarterback.
It'll be interesting to see if there is some quarterback controversy brewing in Gainesville as well, as backup quarterback Trammel Jones Jr., who started for an injured Aaron Philo, looked comfortable running the offense. He threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another 41 yards. Florida gets a bye this week before Sumrall's biggest test, taking on Georgia in Atlanta, Ga. which should be a heavy Bulldog crowd.
Middle of the pack
8. Missouri Tigers (5-2): This Mizzou team looked really good in wins over Texas A&M and Florida, but fell flat against Ole Miss. Mizzou also lost to Mississippi State earlier in the year.
We should find out just how good this Eli Drinkwitz's team is with remaining games against Texas, Georgia and Kentucky next month. made
9. Auburn Tigers (4-2): Credit to Auburn head coach Alex Golesh, who got the first signature win of his Tiger tenure with a huge road upset against the Georgia Bulldogs. Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown had his best game on the ground all season, rushing for 115 yards and a touchdown. We'll no more if this Tiger team is for real with remaining games still to come against LSU, Ole Miss and Alabama.
10. South Carolina Gamecocks (3-3): South Carolina was on a bye, but the Gamecocks' upset win over Florida looks even better with the Gators' win over Texas. But that still doesn't change South Carolina's three losses to Mississippi State, Alabama and Kentucky. The Gamecocks will have to play like they did against Florida and then some against Tennessee this week.
How South Carolina does in remaining games against the Vols, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Georgia and Clemson should gauge Shane Beamer's future in Columbia, as well.
11. Texas Longhorns (4-2): Of course, I was tempted to put Texas in the category below this one. But the Longhorns do still have a win over Ohio State still on their resume, and also beat Tennessee.
The big question surrounding Texas is at quarterback, as Arch Manning just has not looked good all season. The hope is that he can improve and play better. If he doesn't it could be a long season for both Manning and head coach Steve Sarkisian. Texas plays Ole Miss at home this week, but also still has to play Missouri, LSU and Texas A&M.
Bottom Feeders
12. Oklahoma Sooners (3-3): The Sooners pulled off a huge upset over Texas just two weeks ago, but Oklahoma lost to Kentucky at home 21-13. The Sooners looked in a position to win the game before three second-half turnovers. I'll be interested to see if head coach Brent Venables makes a change at quarterback, as John Mateer threw a season-high three interceptions.
13. Texas A&M Aggies (4-3): The Aggies got back in the win column with a 41-0 win over The Citadel, but the Bulldogs have won just two games all season. We'll see if TAMU can keep the offensive success going, set to still play Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Texas.
14. Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-2): The injury bug has bit Mississippi State badly, and it's unfortunate for Jeff Lebby's team. The Bulldogs, without quarterback Kamario Taylor and running back Fluff Bothwell, were shutout against LSU.
Hopefully Taylor can get back to some of that magic he had earlier in the season as the Bulldogs still have to play Texas, Auburn and Ole Miss remaining on their schedule.
15. Arkansas Razorbacks (3-4): Arkansas has just one SEC win on its schedule so far, against Vanderbilt, which has yet to win a game in conference play. 2026 might be a wash for first-year head coach Ryan Silverfield.
16. Vanderbilt Commodores (3-4): I guess Diego Pavia was a pretty good college quarterback. The Commodores are on-track for a regression year, which is disappointing given Vandy's 10-win season last year. The Commodores' defense has been struggling, but quarterback Jared Curtis has been struggling, as well.
