So far during the WNBA season, the MVP frontrunner is clear: A'ja Wilson is the best player in the league, and the former South Carolina basketball star is playing at a level head and shoulders above the competition.

In the 2024 season, Wilson has scored at least 20 points in every game of the season (setting a new WNBA record for consecutive 20-point games) and is averaging 27.8 points per game and 11.6 rebounds, both of which lead the league. She also has posted 2.5 assists, 2.4 blocks (2nd in the league), and 1.9 steals (6th in the league) per game.

Wilson also leads the league in PER (Player Efficiency Rating), field goals made, and free throws made, and she is ranked in the top-10 in field goal percentage.

It should come as no surprise then that Wilson was named the recipient of the Western Conference Player of the Week. In two games for her Las Vegas Aces squad, Wilson averaged 26.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 3 steals while shooting over 50% from the field in both games and going 13-15 from the free throw line. Despite her high usage on offense and role as the defensive anchor on the other end of the floor, she only had 3 total turnovers and 3 total fouls.

The honor is the 18th weekly award in Wilson's career, and she is pushing ever closer to the all-time record that is held by WNBA legend Tina Charles (33). Wilson also trails all-time greats like Candace Parker (26), Elena Delle Donne (24), Tamika Catchings (22), Diana Taurasi (21), Maya Moore (20), and Lauren Jackson (19).

Wilson is just 27 years old, but she already has forced herself into the GOAT conversation. She is better than ever right now, and she is only getting better.
