Well, with the home crowd on their side and the media believing they had what it took to win the game, The Gamecocks, unfortunately, were unable to pull off the upset against No. 12 Ole Miss in Williams-Brice Stadium.

This game was highly anticipated with the ranked matchup, the memories from 15 years ago when Ole Miss last visited Columbia, and the return of former wide receiver Juice Wells, who transferred to the Rebels at the end of last season.

While the Gamecocks were able to hold Wells to just three catches, he did finish the day with 97 yards, but Gamecock fans will always have the fact that he fumbled the ball into the end zone which resulted in a touchback after a big catch and run.

The offense was nowhere to be found today, but that wasn't the complete fault of the players, there were some questionable calls by the coaching staff, including a fake punt on the first drive of the game that set the tone. The Rebels were able to capitalize on the miscue and score a touchdown on the following drive to go up 7-0.

On South Carolina's second drive of the game, the Gamecock's backup quarterback, Robby Ashford, fumbled a handoff that Ole Miss quickly jumped on. The Rebels yet again made the Gamecocks pay for the mistake and drove the ball down the field for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

The Gamecocks were able to drive down the field a few drives later and score their only three points of the game. The Gamecocks, for the rest of the game, continued to shoot themselves in the foot with a missed field goal, turnovers, and penalties that continued to give new life to the Rebels.

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers, in his first game back from the injury he suffered against LSU, was only 20-for-32 for 162 yards and an interception.

The Gamecocks will turn around and have a very tough matchup against currently No. 1 Alabama, but the Crimson Tide are bound to fall in the rankings after being upset by Vanderbilt this weekend. Both Alabama and South Carolina are coming off a loss, and the question is which team will have a better bounce back.
