Team USA wins final pre-Olympic game as South Carolina basketball legend dominates
By Kevin Miller
The United States Basketball Women's National Team is a loaded unit that feels destined to win its 8th Olympic gold medal in a row. Led by South Carolina basketball alum A'ja Wilson, the world's best player, the US is clearly the top group in the 2024 Summer Olympics, and fans of the red, white, and blue cannot wait for the first game next week.
In the team's final pre-Olympics tune-up game against the German National Team, Team USA cruised to a comfortable victory. Along the way, A'ja Wilson did what A'ja Wilson does and dominated from start to finish.
For the game, Wilson scored 19 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Both of those numbers topped the box score for either team as she outscored the nearest player for Team USA (Breanna Stewart) by 4 points and the nearest player for the German team (Luisa Geiselsoder) by 4 points, as well. Her 14-rebound performance gave her 7 more boards than versatile American forward Alyssa Thomas and 4 more than German forward Nyara Sabally. Wilson also added 2 blocks, 2 steals, and 1 assist while shooting over 50% from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line.
The Las Vegas Aces star already had a double-double by the time the halftime intermission began and picked up most of the rest of her stats in the opening minutes of the 2nd half. She needed only 25 minutes of time on the court to post her gaudy numbers.

A'ja Wilson and Team USA will begin their official Olympic run on Monday, July 29th against the national team from Japan. The game will tip at 2:45 PM ET and will be broadcast on the USA Network. It will be streamed on the Peacock app.
