A'ja Wilson is doing what A'ja Wilson does as she is dominating for Team USA in the pursuit of another women's basketball gold medal. The United States Basketball Women's National Team has clinched a spot in the quarterfinals already and will play their final game in group play on Sunday against Germany.
Laeiticia Amihere is also competing in basketball. She plays for Team Canada, and her team will need a win in their final game of the group stage to push themselves into the next round.
In track and field and cross country, long-distance runner Anass Essayi qualified for the semifinal round of the 1500-meter run. He will run again for the Moroccan team on Sunday.
Also in track and field, sprinter Quincy Hall (running for Team USA in the 400-meter sprint) is one of the top contenders for the gold medal. He will run on Sunday and Monday to earn a spot in Tuesday's semifinal.
Former Gamecock Aliyah Abrams will run again for Guyana, marking her third Olympic Games. She will run in the preliminary rounds on Monday and Tuesday as she seeks to advance to the semis on Wednesday.
Eric Favors was the first Olympic shot putter in over 30 years for Ireland. He did not advance to the semifinals.
In swimming, Tatiana Salcutan (women's 200-meter backstroke, Moldova) and Tomas Peribonio (men's 200-meter individual medley, Ecuador) competed but did not advance to the semifinals.
South African diver Julia Vincent will compete in the women's 3-meter springboard for the third time. The event will not take place until late next week.
Gamecock tennis representative Francisco Cerundolo won two singles matches for Argentina (including 10th-ranked Ugo Humbert) but lost to #6 Casper Ruud. He also withdrew from his doubles match.
