The latest South Carolina Gamecocks news from the last week, starting with some updates from the 2024 Olympic Games.

South Carolina basketball legend A'ja Wilson led Team USA to another gold medal (the United States Basketball Women's National Team's 8th in a row) and was named the Olympics MVP.

South Carolina track and field national championship-winning hurdler Quincy Hall won the gold medal in the 400-meter sprint.

Shane Beamer's South Carolina football team got some good recruiting news this week

4-star linebacker/EDGE Keenan Britt announced a commitment to the Gamecocks. He is the third commitment in the 2026 cycle.

The Gamecocks have put a long list of players on preseason watch lists for major college football awards.

Running back Rocket Sanders (Maxwell Award, Doak Walker Award, Comeback Player of the Year Award), tight end Brady Hunt (Comeback Player of the Year Award), center Vershon Lee (Rimington Trophy), punter Kai Kroeger (Ray Guy Award), defensive lineman Boogie Huntley (Danny Wuerffel Trophy), long snapper Hunter Rogers (Patrick Mannelly Award), and linebacker Debo Williams (Bronko Nagurski Trophy) all have gotten some preseason love recently as they made preseason award lists.

Bruce Feldman's annual preseason "Freaks List" included two Gamecocks.

Defensive back Nick Emmanwori was 11th on the list, and wide receiver Nyck Harbor was #1, becoming the first player ever to be 1st on the list in two seasons.

Lamont Paris' Gamecock squad got some positive recruiting news, as well.

A top-100 prospect in the class of 2025, 4-star forward Mikey Wilkins, announced that USC is one of his seven favorites.

A former Gamecock signed a new pro contract.

Point guard Ta'Lon Cooper spent this summer with the Orlando Magic but is headed to Europe to play with the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in the German Basketball Bundesliga.

The Gamecocks made the top list for multiple 5-star players in the '25 cycle.

Versatile wing Agot Makeer trimmed her list of favorites and named the Gamecocks in her top-6.

Wing Deniya Prawl put the Gamecocks in her top-8.

A former South Carolina baseball commitment flipped to the Creighton Blue Jays, following former Gamecock head coach Mark Kingston.

Kingston, who is the coach-in-waiting in Omaha, secured a pledge from right-handed pitcher Henry Prindl.

A big-time Gamecock commit decommitted, as well.

Catcher/third baseman Peter Mershon announced his decommitment from the South Carolina baseball program. Mershon is expected to receive a lot of MLB Draft consideration.
