South Carolina football starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers injured
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football fans have mixed feelings about what they've seen through thirty minutes inside Williams-Brice Stadium.
On one hand, the Gamecocks carried an 8-point lead into halftime as they led the #16 LSU Tigers 24-16.
On the other hand, Carolina went from dominating on defense in the 1st quarter to resembling swiss cheese on that side of the ball in the 2nd period. Penalties and other self-inflicted issues plagued the offense, as well, making what looked like a potential blowout into a competitive game heading into the halftime intermission.
However, he also shared a quick note about starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers. Sellers, who took a sack that pushed USC out of field goal range just before the half, got his leg rolled up underneath him and a couple of defenders. He had to exit the game ahead of the final play of the half and immediately went to the locker room with a noticeable limp and a pained expression on his face. Beamer shared with Rowe that Sellers' injury was related to his ankle but didn't provide any specifics.
When Sellers left the game, Robby Ashford was inserted, but the former Auburn Tigers and Oregon Ducks QB took a sack instead of getting off a Hail Mary attempt as the clock ticked down to 0. Last week, Ashford also came in when Sellers missed about a drive and a half with a hip issue. Now, with Sellers' ankle injury, Ashford could be called upon to be the man in the 2nd half for the Gamecocks.
Beamer also told Holly Rowe that former Pittsburgh Panthers and Oklahoma Sooners signal-caller Davis Beville could be an option to play if the team needed him.
The second half of South Carolina-LSU will start momentarily.
