South Carolina Football: Priority Gamecock target sets commitment date
By Kevin Miller
This spring has been full of recruiting news for South Carolina football fans to digest. Just since the beginning of April, the Gamecocks have landed nine commitments (five in the class of 2025, two in the class of 2026, and two from the transfer portal), and they've made countless "top-x schools" lists.
On Tuesday morning, a priority South Carolina target revealed that he also was getting close to making his college decision known.
Shed Sarratt, a 4-star interior offensive lineman from Gaffney, South Carolina, has been a major target for the Gamecocks and one of the industry's fastest risers at the position, and he announced on social media that he would be making his college commitment known on his grandmother's birthday, June 14th.
Sarratt is believed to be a Gamecock "lean," but teams like the Florida Gators, Tennessee Volunteers, and Purdue Boilermakers are involved in his recruitment.
The Gaffney High School product has been on campus in Columbia a lot, and he has an official visit scheduled for the weekend of June 21st. A trip up to West Lafayette, Indiana to visit the Purdue Boilermakers is the only other official visit he has gotten scheduled at this point. The Purdue visit is set for before his commitment announcement.
As a player, Sarratt is a guy who can grow into a mauler in the run game. He is strong and aggressive and appears on film to play with a mean streak that is necessary for success as an interior offensive lineman. He is also a better athlete than many other big-bodied offensive linemen, meaning he has some untapped potential as a pass protector, as well.
He has played both guard and tackle in his high school career, but Sarratt is likely an interior lineman at the college level.
The Gamecocks do not have any offensive line commitments in the 2025 class yet (they do have one in the '26 cycle in the form of Rock Hill native Anthony Baxter), so if Sarratt picks the South Carolina football program, he will be the first in the class.
