South Carolina Football: On3 hilariously announces incorrect commitment for the Gamecocks
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football fans have had plenty of transfer portal commitments to celebrate over the last week.
The Gamecocks have put together one of the country's best transfer portal recruiting classes, and there is a chance they aren't done yet.
Head coach Shane Beamer and his staff have completely flipped the running back room and gone a long way in filling holes at wide receiver and across the defensive line. They've also added needed depth pieces at tight end, defensive back, and (maybe) quarterback.
However, on Monday, South Carolina football fans got a little confused when On3's official Transfer Portal Twitter/X feed posted that the Gamecocks were landing a commitment from former Kentucky Wildcat Izayah Cummings.
In a since-deleted post (click the post below), the On3 Transfer Portal account announced that the athletic tight end would be transferring to the Gamecocks. The main problem with that announcement? Carolina wasn't even pursuing Cummings.
Obviously a mistake, the post was deleted quickly but not before giving fans online some good laughs as Cummings actually was committing to Louisville.
Some fans speculated that the account might have gotten confused because both South Carolina and Louisville use the #WelcomeHome. Others argued that perhaps whichever intern runs the account got confused because Louisville sometimes uses the various chicken emojis as there are no cardinal emojis.
Either way, the mistake was rather hilarious to those who caught it. Thankfully the false commitment announcement was not made about a player the Gamecocks were actually in the running to land.
For what it's worth Cummings is a nice pickup for Louisville. He will join Tanner Koziol as new tight ends in Lexington, Kentucky. Koziol was a teammate of new Gamecock transfer portal tight end commitment Brady Hunt.
During his four years with the Kentucky Wildcats Cummings had 3 catches for 43 yards against the Gamecocks. All of his stats came this year when South Carolina football knocked off Mark Stoops' team at Williams-Brice Stadium.
