South Carolina football already has a quarterback committed to the program in the class of 2026. Landon Duckworth pledged his services to the Gamecocks back before the 2023 football season, and the 4-star dual-threat quarterback from Alabama became the first pledge to the program in either the 2025 or 2026 cycle.

However, even with Duckworth in the fold, the Gamecocks continued recruiting other signal-callers in the class. The most notable of these young players was Jared Curtis, a 4-star quarterback ranked even higher by the recruiting services than Duckworth.

Ranked as high as the top prospect in the country by 247Sports, Curtis is destined for a 5th star in the not-so-distant future, and he is a universal top-4 quarterback recruit according to the rankings from all the national recruiting services. Back in the fall, he put the Gamecocks inside his top-10, and rumblings began in the spring that he was getting ready to make his commitment.

That commitment came on Saturday, but it wasn't to the South Carolina football program.

In a graphic announcement through On3's Hayes Fawcett, the Nashville Christian standout revealed his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs.

With Curtis' new pledge to the rival Bulldogs, it is unclear if the Gamecocks will continue to pursue a quarterback in the 2026 class.

They are, however, in the game for 4-star class of 2025 quarterback Ryan Montgomery. Montgomery is believed to be close to a decision, as well.

The Gamecocks have a young quarterback expected to start for the team this season in redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers. 5th-year player Robby Ashford and true freshman Dante Reno are the only other scholarship QBs on the roster, though, so Carolina needs to take at least one player in both the '25 and '26 class to keep the numbers up in the quarterback room.
