South Carolina Basketball: Gamecock guard to participate in ESPNW Summit
By Kevin Miller
On Thursday, ESPN is hosting the ESPNW Summit NYC. The summit will be an all-day event in the Big Apple that will be "focused on creating positive change and opportunity for women in sports." The event has plenty of star power who will be speaking and leading discussions, but one name in particular will catch the eye of South Carolina basketball fans.
Rising sophomore guard Tessa Johnson will be a part of the ESPNW Summit as a guest on a live recording of the Laughter Permitted podcast hosted by Julie Foudy and Lynn Olszowy. Johnson and fellow star guards Azzi Fudd (UConn Huskies) and Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame Fighting Irish) will be guests on the episode.
Other ESPN personalities will be part of the summit. Names like Andraya Carter, Elle Duncan, Sarah Spain, Chiney Ogwumike, and Ari Chambers will be part of the event, as well.
Johnson's appearance on Laughter Permitted will be during the 11:00 hour as she, Fudd, and Hidalgo will be on the podcast representing "trailblazers in sports."
There will be another South Carolina basketball angle to Thursday's festivities as there will be a sneak preview of the Full Court Press ESPN+ documentary. The documentary followed Gamecock center Kamilla Cardoso along with Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark and UCLA Bruins guard Kiki Rice in the lead up to and during the NCAA Tournament. The sneak peek will take place right before Johnson's appearance on the Laughter Permitted pod.
For those interested in attending/viewing the summit, virtual registration is still open and is free of charge.
Several prominent members of the ESPNW Summit will be in Columbia this weekend when South Carolina basketball legend A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces play a preseason game against the Puerto Rican national team.
