In-state South Carolina football target now a consensus 4-star
By Kevin Miller
One of the top uncommitted recruits in the class of the 2025 for the South Carolina football program is in-state wide receiver Malik Clark. The Rock Hill High School product was not ranked by most of the major recruiting outlets last summer, but a strong sophomore season for the Bearcats and some big-time showings on the camp circuit fixed that problem.
Clark earned his rating, and it didn't take long for him to force his way into the 4-star prospect discussion. Now, the talented wideout is considered a blue chipper by all four major recruiting outlets (On3, 247Sports, Rivals, and ESPN).
ESPN was the last to hop on board the Clark bandwagon, but this week, the worldwide leader rectified that issue by naming him a 4-star recruit. Not only that, though, ESPN now has Clark ranked higher than any of the other recruiting services, slotting him in as the 165th-best player in the country and the #16 wide receiver in America.
The high spot in the 2025 rankings is well-deserved for Clark.
Physically, he has a great combination of size (listed as tall as 6'3") and speed (has been clocked at 4.35s in the 40-yard dash and in the 10.5-range in the 100-meter sprint). Clark isn't just a straight-line runner, though, as he has plenty of route-running capabilities underneath, and he has displayed enough playmaking ability on film to think he can be a problem for opposing defenses after the catch.
Clark's recruitment to the Gamecocks has been an odd one thanks to three different men holding the job of wide receivers coach for Carolina since February. However, USC is considered one of the favorites to land Clark, and the Gamecocks officially made his top-5 list alongside the North Carolina Tar Heels, NC State Wolfpack, Auburn Tigers, and Florida State Seminoles.
