Future South Carolina basketball star leads Team USA in scoring again at AmeriCup
By Kevin Miller
For the third day in a row South Carolina basketball 5-star freshman Joyce Edwards and the Team USA U18 squad played in the AmeriCup in Colombia (that's South America, not the Midlands). For the third day in a row, Team USA had a convincing win, following up dominations of Brazil and Puerto Rico with another lopsided win in Group B.
Matching up with the U18 national team from Mexico, the United States again scored more points in the 1st quarter than their opponent was able to score in the entire game. Outpacing Mexico 33-6, 30-7, 30-5, and 22-2 in the four respective quarters, Team USA won by the unfathomable score of 115-20.

As she also did on Tuesday, Joyce Edwards, serving as the team's captain at the AmeriCup, started the game and was the scoring standard. Leading both teams in the game with 17 points on 6-9 shooting, she also added 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks and went 5-6 from the free throw line. The Camden High School alum could be on her way to an AmeriCup MVP if she keeps up the high level of play.
Class of 2025 South Carolina basketball target Jazzy Davidson scored 14 points on 5-5 shooting and led both teams with 7 assists and 4 steals. She was a perfect 3-3 from inside the 3-point arc, 2-2 from downtown, and 2-2 from the charity stripe.
With their three dominant victories in group play, Team USA has positioned themselves as the #1-seed heading into the quarterfinals of the AmeriCup, though Team Canada is expected to emerge from Group A with an undefeated record, as well. No teams have been eliminated yet as group play is for seeding purposes only. The quarterfinals will be played over the weekend.
