Back in May, elite 4-star EDGE Bryce Davis revealed a commitment date of July 20th and announced a top-3 of the Georgia Bulldogs, Duke Blue Devils, and Clemson Tigers. South Carolina football fans were disappointed as the Gamecocks had been recruiting the talented North Carolina native hard.
However, Davis still chose to take an official visit to Columbia, and the outlook of his recruitment changed. The Gamecocks were back in the race for the Grimsley High School product.
The Georgia Bulldogs are still thought to be the favorite to land Davis, but the three schools from Carolinas all have a puncher's chance. As USC fans know all too well, it is never easy to beat the 'Dawgs on a defensive line prospect, but the Gamecocks are much more in the picture now than they were three weeks ago. He took official visits to Clemson, Duke, Georgia, and South Carolina, in that order.
After not signing a prospect from the state of North Carolina since Nick Barrett back in 2021, Carolina has two commitments from the state so far in the '25 cycle.
As a player, Bryce Davis is a strong-bodied EDGE (listed at 6'3" and 265 pounds), but he has a wingspan that provides him with much more length than his 6'3" height would indicate. Davis is athletic and explosive, giving him the ability to win with power or speed up front.
With experience as a traditional defensive end, defensive tackle, and wide-9 stand-up EDGE, Davis brings versatility to the table. That attribute will be a benefit to him as he continues to develop physically. If he grows and adds weight, a move inside to defensive tackle wouldn't be a completely foreign thing to him. If he keeps his strength but stays lean and quick, he can remain at end, either with his hand in the dirt or standing up like pass rushers sometimes do in the Gamecocks' 3-3-5 look.
Ranked as high as #51 overall in the country (Rivals), Davis is a consensus 4-star player and is ranked inside the top-151 by all four major recruiting services.
