Another South Carolina basketball non-conference game on the books
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina basketball coach Dawn Staley might be coming off of her third National Championship, but the Gamecock boss certainly is not resting on her laurels.
Despite no need to do so, Coach Staley once again is scheduling one of the toughest slates in the country. In addition to the annual rivalry games against Clemson and UConn, South Carolina also will play against the Michigan Wolverines (in Las Vegas as part of the Hall of Fame Series for the season opener), UCLA Bruins (in Los Angeles), Duke Blue Devils (in the ACC/SEC Challenge), NC State Wolfpack (in a neutral site game in Charlotte), and Iowa State Cyclones and Purdue Boilermakers (in the Fort Myers Tip-Off).
The latest update to the non-conference schedule in Columbia was announced on Thursday. According to a release from the South Carolina basketball program, the Gamecocks will travel to Fort Worth, Texas to take on the TCU Horned Frogs.
Because of the expected fan interest, the game will not be played at TCU's typical home venue of Schollmaier Arena, the two teams will match up at Dickies Arena, a building with a larger seating capacity of over 14,000.
Playing against TCU will pit the Gamecocks against Hailey Van Lith again. Van Lith played last season with the LSU Tigers and lost to Carolina twice.
South Carolina basketball has not lost a game since the 2022-2023 Final Four and has not lost a regular season contest since the calendar read 2021 (a controversial overtime loss to the Missouri Tigers in the "other Columbia").
TCU, on the other hand, has not made the NCAA Tournament since the 2009-2010 campaign. However, in the first year of head coach Mark Campbell, the Horned Frogs won 21 games a season ago, spent part of the year ranked in the top-25, and now appear to be trending upward as a program.
