South Carolina basketball legend A'ja Wilson will don the red, white, and blue once again the summer as she represents Team USA in the Summer Olympics. As the best player in the world, it is no shock that Wilson is on the National Team, but news came out on Tuesday that Wilson will not be the only former Gamecock basketball star to be an Olympian this summer.

Former South Carolina basketball forward Laeticia Amihere will play for Team Canada during this summer's Olympic Games in Paris, France. The Ontario, Canada native will have her second opportunity to play for Team Canada in the Olympics as she previously had the honor of doing so during the 2020 Summer Olympics (which were played in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic) while still in college.

The former 1st round pick of the Atlanta Dream (2023 WNBA Draft) is an athletic and versatile player who loves to defend and rebound, making her an ideal pick to play a role on an Olympic squad that will have plenty of other scoring options. She is one of twelve players who were selected for inclusion on the Canadian National Team.

Amihere's Olympic selection makes her the youngest Olympian in Atlanta Dream history, and she is the first Olympian from Team Canada to play for the Dream, as well.

The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held from July 23rd through August 11th. The WNBA will be on hiatus during the Olympics so that the league's stars can participate in the Games without missing league action. The WNBA season will begin its All-Star break on July 18th, and after the All-Star Game on July 20th, there will be no WNBA games until August 15th, giving Olympians like Amihere and Wilson a short break before resuming their WNBA seasons.
