Darren Uscher is less than two weeks into his new job as the director of player development and recruiting with the South Carolina football program. However, he has made an impact in the Gamecocks' recruiting efforts already.

One of the first scholarship offers that Uscher handed out after his hire was to Alabama native Keenan Britt. Rated as a 4-star EDGE recruit, Britt is a big-time prospect in the class of 2026, and the rising high school junior has a strong relationship with Uscher.

The relationship with the newest South Carolina football recruiting staffer was strong enough that, upon Uscher's hire and subsequent offer, Britt immediately released a top-8 list that included the Gamecocks. Now, just a week later, he has trimmed his list again.

On Wednesday, Keenan Britt revealed his top-5 schools, and once again, South Carolina made the cut.

Britt's entire top-5 includes the South Carolina Gamecocks, Ole Miss Rebels, Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers, and Oregon Ducks (where Uscher was recruiting Britt prior to coming to USC). Auburn, Oregon, and Ole Miss were considered to be the favorites earlier in his recruitment, but it is unclear what his order might look like now. His brother, KJ Britt, played at Auburn.

In Britt's announcement, he also included the date "July 29th," perhaps indicating that his college decision day will be coming at the end of this month.

As a player, Britt is an explosive athlete who has spent most of his high school career playing as a true defensive end, though, he d some experience playing as a stand-up EDGE player, a traditional linebacker, and even as an undersized nose tackle.

Listed at 6'2" and 230 pounds with a solid athletic profile, Britt is a "tweener" at defensive end and linebacker who could play either spot in college depending on how he develops and what system he plays in at the next level. The Gamecocks have taken several players similar to Britt in their 2025 recruiting class as players with his profile are extremely useful in the 3-3-5 scheme Carolina began using last season.
