South Carolina fans had to wait until the fifth round to see another Gamecock drafted. On Saturday, the Los Angeles Chargers selected defensive lineman Nick Barrett with the No. 145 overall pick in the fifth round.Â
Him receiving the phone call from L.A. and celebrating with his family with the news was awesome to see:Â

Although the next best available South Carolina player appeared to be safety Jalon Kilgore, Barrett was taken by Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers.Â
In Los Angeles, Barrett joins a Chargers defense that features star linebacker Khalil Mack, defensive end Justin Eboigbe, defensive tackle Jamaree Caldwell and veteran defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson, who signed over free agency.Â
He also joins a rookie draft class that includes big defensive names in EDGE rusher Akeem Mesidor out of Miami and safety Genesis Smith from Arizona. Â
During Barrett's four seasons with the Gamecocks, he accounted for 72 total tackles with two sacks and an interception.Â
Barrett gets to head out west for the next step in his NFL career.
