LaNorris Sellers earns SEC honors for the third week in a row after hero performance
South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers has been putting on quite a show during the Gamecocks current four-game winning streak, and the folks at the SEC are taking notice.
After his stellar hero performance against No. 24 Missouri this past weekend, he helped lift the Gamecocks to their third straight win over a ranked opponent and their fourth straight win overall; the SEC has given the young freshman the conference's Player of the Week honors.
This is not the first time Sellers has gotten SEC honors this season. This actually isn't the first time this month Sellers has gotten recognized by the conference as he won Freshman of the Week the past two weeks after the Gamecocks beat Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.
In South Carolina's thrilling win over the Missouri Tigers, Sellers was 21-for-30 with 253 passing yards and five touchdowns with just one interception on the day. He was also effective in the run game when he needed to be with 14 carries for 45 yards.
With Sellers being a freshman, five touchdowns are obviously the most he has thrown in a game so far in his career, but this could just be the start.
After a bit of a shaky start with the injury during the LSU game that held him out for two weeks, but only one game, Sellers has truly had one game this season where he struggled the most, and that was against Ole Miss, where he seemed like everyone on the team struggled.
In his first season with the Gamecocks, Sellers has thrown for 1,803 yards, 14 touchdowns, only five interceptions, and has taken 26 sacks. He has also been electric in the run game with his big frame and ability to turn on the jets when he gets to the open field as he has 436 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.
Sellers could be leading the Gamecocks in a true hunt for the College Football Playoff if it wasn't for one bad call against LSU, but fans can't hold onto that forever. What fans should be excited about is that this guy that head coach Shane Beamer brought in is electric and could be something special for the Gamecocks for years to come.
