The WNBA 2026 season is heating up as the third week of the regular season is fully underway.

The South Carolina Gamecocks, which have produced several stars across the league, have a program-record 12 former players playing across teams this season alone. One big name who is hoping to lead her team back to the playoffs for the first time in two seasons this year is star Chicago Sky center Kamilla Cardoso.

At the start of the regular season, the Sky had to replace the likes of Angel Reese, who was traded to the Atlanta Dream. Cardoso has stepped into that role well, as she is second on her team averaging 14.4 points per game, and leads the Sky with 10.8 rebounds per contest. It's obviously still very early in the season, but the third-year Cardoso is having the best statistical season of her career so far.

Although Chicago fell 99-89 to the Dallas Wings on Wednesday, she put together her best game of the season so far, scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. She also shot a lights-out 71.4% from the floor. She added a double-double, with 11 points and 12 rebounds during her team's 86-79 victory over the Minnesota Lynx.

So it wasn't too surprising that Cardoso was named her team's player of the week heading into Memorial Day Weekend.

Gamecock fans will have a chance to watch Cardoso and the Sky take on the Lynx once again on Saturday, May 23. The game will air live on CBS and steam on Paramount+.

Chicago is 3-2 on the season, and currently tied for first place in the East, alongside Indiana, New York and Atlanta.
