Three-star defensive back Jowell Combay has locked in his commitment date for July 9, and the Gamecocks remain firmly in the mix. The Georgia standout has narrowed his choices down to five programs: Missouri, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Georgia, and South Carolina.

Combay was in Columbia this past weekend for his official visit, and the trip seemed to leave a strong impression on the young DB.

“The visit was great! The energy was real, and everything from the coaches to the atmosphere made it feel like a place I could see myself,” Combay said. “They are definitely in a strong spot.”

Combay also commented on his connection with the Gamecocks. “Just how genuine the coaches and players were. You could tell it wasn’t just recruiting talk—it was real love and a real culture,” he added. “Coach Gray keeps it 100. He knows the game, is very experienced, and takes time to break down how I’d fit into the system. Our relationship has gotten stronger with every visit and conversation.”

Combay's stock has risen after a strong season with the Harrison Hoyas, where he showed off his elite instincts, ball skills, and tackle ability. During the offseason, he transferred to Kell High School, a 4A program that's known for producing high-level defensive backs. At Kell, he will join Arizona State commit Jalen Williams and fellow standout Tony Forney in a loaded secondary.

Combay's versatility and explosiveness will give the Kell Longhorns plenty of options on the defense and will showcase Combay's potential at the next level. When it comes to making that decision, development and a family atmosphere are high on the list for him.

“Being developed is a big thing for me—and that’s more on a personal level,” Combay said. “Also, does it feel like family? No matter how far I am from home, I want it to feel like I never left and be somewhere I can compete for a spot.”

South Carolina has a lot of momentum in his recruitment, especially after this past weekend's official visit. The Gamecocks have built a strong relationship with Combay, and with his official decision looming, Shane Beamer and his staff in a good position to add Combay to the roster.
