The Indiana Fever had a scary moment on Tuesday night, as the Fever took on the Seattle Storm on the road. In the first half, Fever star center Aliyah Boston took a hard fall and grabbed at her right knee after the play.
She was immediately helped off of the floor and went straight to the locker room. Boston was listed as questionable to return with what the team described as a "lower right leg injury." Although she was seen on the bench after the injury, she did not return to the game. Indiana notched a 105-95 victory, although Seattle made it a two-point game in the second half.
After the game, Fever head coach Stephanie White appeared to suggest that Boston's injury isn't too serious, adding that putting her in during the second half likely wasn't worth the risk.
"No update other than, you know, wasn’t really worth the risk for us in the second half,” White said of her star player. “Just want to be very conservative and make sure that she’s good to go.”
During a halftime interview, Boston's teammate, Sophie Cunningham said the team believed she was going to be OK. Although Seattle made things close in the second half, Indiana pulled away in the fourth quarter. With Boston's absence, Caitlin Clark scored 32 points, with Kelsey Mitchell adding 28 in the victory.
Obviously it remains to be seen just how long Boston will be out with this injury. Indiana will take on the Portland Fire Friday evening at 10 p.m. ET on the road. Given Portland's 11-17 record, it wouldn't be all too surprising if Boston sits that one out while she gets healthy. After the Portland game, Indiana travels to take on the red-hot Minnesota Lynx on Aug. 2.
Boston has missed three other games this season due to a lower right leg injury, although it's unclear if that is the same injury she tweaked on Wednesday.
