Aliyah Boston suffers scary moment with apparent knee injury, leaves game vs. Seattle

Indiana Fever fans held their breath on Tuesday evening as their star center Aliyah Boston suffered a scary moment during a road game against the Seattle Storm. 

In the second quarter, Boston took a hard fall and landed hard on her right knee. She was seen clutching her knee in pain afterwards, and needed some assistance to get off the floor, heading straight into the locker room after the play:

She did not return into the game, and as the second half began, the broadcast listed Boston as questionable to return with a right lower leg injury. The Storm were able to capitalize off Boston being off the floor, as Seattle scored 27 points in the second quarter, trailing Indiana 58-47 at the half. 

Midway in the third quarter, Seattle was able to cut Indiana's lead to just two points. Hopefully the lower right leg injury for Boston isn't too serious. The Fever star is having a career season this year in Indiana, averaging 17.3 points per game and leading the team with 8.5 boards per game, adding 2.8 assists per contest. While Indiana's offense has been led by Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham in recent weeks, Boston plays a huge role within Indiana's offense.

"AB is just AB," Cunningham said of Boston during a halftime interview. "She's an All-Star. She's one-of-a-kind. She's gonna be a hall of famer one day. So that's a load for all of us to try and pick up. We're trying to keep the energy, keep the vibes high. We're gonna be OK. I think AB's gonna be OK, too. But we have to focus on this game. We need to get it for her."

Boston was named a 2026 WNBA All-Star, her fourth of her career earlier this month. She also signed a new contract with Indiana before the season that made her the league's highest-paid player. She is right in front of fellow former Gamecock A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces. 

We will update this piece with further information on Boston's injury when it comes available. The next scheduled game for the Fever is on Friday, July 31 at 10 p.m. ET against the Portland Fire on the road. Boston has missed three games with a lower right leg injury, but it's unclear if this injury stems from the existing one.
