One of the sures signs that football season is officially back is the NFL's annual Hall of Fame Game. Tonight, the league's first preseason matchup will kick off in Canton, Ohio, the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This year's game features the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Chargers, and for Gamecock fans, there are plenty of reasons to watch. The Chargers roster includes three former South Carolina standouts: Kyle Kennard, Raheim "Rocket" Sanders, and Dalevon Campbell.
Kyle Kennard Ready to Prove Himself
Kennard, the dominant edge rusher who led the SEC in sacks during the 2024 season, was selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. While he is expected to make the Chargers' roster for the season, tonight's game will be an opportunity to show why many teams made a mistake letting him slip that far. The former Gamecock has the physicality and pass-rush ability to thrive at the pro level, and a strong preseason debut could set the tone for his rookie campaign.
Rocket Sanders' Roster Battle
Running back Rocket Sanders signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent, so he will face a tougher road in the pros. The NFL preseason is often a make-or-break time for players in his position. Sanders is likely to see a healthy amount of playing time tonight even though he is currently fighting for a spot on a crowded RB roster. Sanders' physical style and versatility could help him stand out among big time players like Omarion Hampton, however.
Dalevon Campbell Turning Heads
Wide receiver Dalevon Campbell is another undrafted free agent who is gaining momentum in training camp. With the Chargers needing to fill the void left by the recent retirement of Mike Williams, there is an opening in the depth chart. Campbell's recent performances have reportedly impressed coaches and teammates alike. He really has a chance to carve out a role in the receiving corps.
Tonight's Game
All three former South Carolina players will look to make an impact tonight as they take the national stage. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
