As we enter the month of August, there are signs that football season is fast approaching. In the NFL, teams across the country have started training camp, and college football teams are starting fall camp as early as this week.
Another major sign that the football offseason is right around the corner is the annual arrival of HBO's "Hard Knocks." This year, the show will profile the Seattle Seahawks as it defends its Super Bowl title. Former South Carolina Gamecock Nick Emmanwori is entering his second season in the NFL, following a standout rookie season on Seattle's defense.
Before the show's first episode aired on Tuesday evening, Emmanwori was featured in an exclusive clip. In it, the former Gamecock is seen discussing how to deal with Seattle fans noticing him on a scooter, stemming from rehab from an ankle surgery he underwent in the offseason. Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald is seen telling his second-year safety not to worry about the noise outside of football:

In the clip, Macdonald mentions a time when ESPN NFL analyst Rex Ryan criticized his defense. He seems to resonate with Emmanwori, who adds that he likes to "keep receipts" and prove doubters wrong. In a way, Macdonald is also telling his player to prove the doubters wrong as he comes back from his injury.
Emmanwori's injury came as a bit of a surprise last month. When he was added to Seattle's physically unable to perform list before training camp, Macdonald later told reporters he underwent surgery from an ankle injury he dealt with throughout his rookie season.
"So, with Nick's situation, it's the ankle from the Super Bowl," Macdonald said via the Seahawks. "I think the best way to describe it is something that he's been dealing with since the Super Bowl, he was able to perform, like able to train, do some things in the offseason program, but just got to the point where it was the best for him for the long term, just to go ahead and get it fixed. And so that's what we all decided to do. It's really the best thing for him, for now and the foreseeable future, for the rest of his career."
Macdonald also added that the team does not have a timetable for his return just yet. Since he is seen on Hard Knocks still on a scooter, it's unlikely he will be ready for Seattle's Week 1 Super Bowl rematch against the New England Patriots on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
As a rookie last season in Seattle, he had 94 total tackles with 2.5 sacks and nine quarterback hits. Seattle drafted Emmanwori in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting him 35th overall. Across his three seasons at South Carolina, he finished with 244 total tackles with 11 passes defended and six interceptions. Whenever Emmanwori returns to Seattle's defense will be big for Coach Macdonald and his team. A recent poll with NFL coaches, execs and scouts had him ranked as the No. 6 overall best safety across all 32 teams.
