ESPN's Desmond Howard believes LaNorris Sellers is South Carolina's key to beating Clemson
South Carolina has the chance to not just beat their bitter rival today but a chance to possibly vault themselves into the College Football Playoff with enough chaos and a convincing win. The Gamecocks are playing their best football right now as they ride a five-game win streak all the way to Clemson, led by redshirt quarterback LaNorris Sellers.
When showing the countdown to the game, the ESPN College Gameday crew talked about the significance of the game and for South Carolina, what they need to do in order to win. Former Michigan and NFL wide receiver Desmond Howard broke down who will be the key for the Gamecocks to win today.
LaNorris Sellers.
Even as a young player, Sellers has shown incredible growth throughout the season, especially in protecting the football. Before he got injured against LSU, Sellers struggled with turning the ball over, and the only game he really had the most trouble after coming back from injury was against Ole Miss, his first game back.
Howard talked about three aspects of Sellers that will help the Gamecocks the most against Clemson: athleticism, decision-making, and playmaking. The young quarterback has gotten better in each of those categories as the season has gone on and it has shown with how well South Carolina is playing.
Sellers will have to deal with a tough Clemson defensive line, but as long as he can get the ball out of his hand quickly, or even get out fo the pocket when pressure comes, he should be okay and has the best chance at leading the Gamecocks to victory against their bitter rival in the Palmetto Bowl.
